சர் சி வி ராமன் அவர்களின் திருக்கரத்தில் விருது பெற்று , சங்கத் தமிழையும் மரபுக் கவிதையையும் தன் உயிர் மூச்சாக மதித்த மதிப்பிற்கும் மரியாதைக்கும் உரிய பசுபதி ஐயா நம்மை விட்டுப் பிரிந்து விட்டார்.
ஜனவரி 29 அன்று மரபுக் கவிதை பற்றிய தில்லை வேந்தன் உரையைக் கேட்க அவர் குவிகம் அளவளாவல் நிகழ்ச்சியில் கலந்துகொண்டு மரபுக் கவிதை பற்றிய அவரது கருத்தை அழகாகக் கூறினார்.
அதைத் தொடர்ந்து அவரை மீண்டும் குவிகத்தில் அவருக்குப் பிடித்த தலைப்பான தமிழில் சொல் விளையாட்டு பற்றிப் பேச மின்னஞ்சல் மூலமாக அழைப்பு விடுத்தேன். அதற்கு அவர் எழுதிய பதில் கண்ணில் நீரை வரவழைத்தது. அதை உங்கள் பார்வைக்கு தந்திருக்கிறேன். அதன்பின் அவரிடம் குவிகத்திற்கு அவருடைய கவிதைகளை அனுப்பும்படி வேண்டிக்கொண்டதற்கு இணங்க இரு வெண்பாக்களை அனுப்பினார். அது இந்த இதழில் அடுத்த பக்கத்தில் வந்திருக்கிறது. ஆனால் திடிரென்று அவர் மறைந்துவிட்டார் என்ற செய்தி வந்ததும் அவர் பிரிவால் வாடும் குடும்பத்தினர், நண்பர், தமிழ் அன்பர் ஆகியோர் வரிசையில் நானும் நின்று கண்ணீர் வடித்தேன்.
முகநூலில் அவரது இரண்டாயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்ட பசுபதிவுகள் உண்மையில் ஒரு இலக்கியச்சுரங்கம்.
அவர் எழுதிய ‘சங்கச் சுரங்கம்’ மற்றும் ‘கவிதை எழுதிக் கலக்கு’ புத்தகங்கள் இலக்கிய – இலக்கண நண்பர்களுக்கு அமிர்தம்.
அவர் நினைவைப் போற்றி அவரை வணங்கி அஞ்சலி செலுத்துவோம்!

I will have to give such a talk only later …. hopefully after 6 months or so. If everything goes well.
The reasons are :
1) “word play ” . Love to talk. But requires ‘visual’ aid. Needs preparation of a document to be shared at talk. Not being an expert , will take time. I will slowly start the effort. When I am ready to talk, will let you know.
2) Any other topic without visual need? Yes, possible. BUT…. the main problem is my health-condition.
I have been/am undergoing tests …. preliminary to a heart by-pass operation… any time I may be called by hospital…. due to covid backlog in sugeries, don’t know when. May be next week, …next month , 2 months later …Don’t know.
So with that in background, I am not accepting any such speech commitments because I may not be able to deliver!
Also difficult to focus on a creative effort under this condition…..
Hope you can understand .And excuse me..for now.

Regret to know of the sad demise of Thiru Professor Pas Pasupathi.
we have lost a walking encyclopedia of Tamil language, Tamil culture . Tamil literature and music. He was another Roja Muthiah with a huge digitized data of old Tamil magazines, with thousands of metalinks in his neurons.
When I was writing my novel Ramojium with a 1940s background, I approached him for info on the then suburban Madras which he provided instantly and in abundance. The same is true about year before yesteryear’s Tamil cinema.
For a Professor Emeritus of a leading Canadian University, it was extraordinary that he assumed a humble demeanour , always approachable.
The erudite electronics professor’s book Kavithai Ezhuthi Kalakku (கவிதை எழுதிக் கலக்கு) is a sort of Poetry for Dummies, immensely readable.
I pray for Pasupathi sir’s noble soul attaining the lotus feet of Ambalapuzha Srikrishna

Great personal loss to me. I knew him since he was 6 yrs old. He was living just opposite to our house in salem Great person of quiet achievement in various fields
He loved life and all its creative face and preserved them like a honeybee. Quite modest for his erudition He had left back a treasure of cultural documents of a century Dont where and how they are going to be preserved…Surprisingly he was in communication until he proceeded to hospital almost bidding farewell
It will be long time for me to be consoled of my loss of a very youngest association RIP

Oh ! It’s shocking. He was a great storehouse of knowledge on various matters of arts and interests including music. That Prof Pas Pasupathi has passed away is a great shock for innumerable fans including me. His blog is very popular and rich with worthy information. Last week he posted in FB like this: “Undergoing treatment for heart attack. So, will be posting oldies. Shall resume new posts after some time. Muruga charanam”.
But, today he is no more with us. He has reached the feet of Lord Muruga. Om Shanthi.

Prof. Subbarayan Pasupathy received his Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications from the University of Madras (now Anna University) in 1963. After graduating with first rank in the first batch of M.Tech students of IIT Madras in 1966, Prof. Pasupathy obtained M.Phil and Ph.D degrees in Communication from Yale University, in 1970 and 1972, respectively. Prof. Pasupathy is at present a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto, Canada.
An abiding interest in teaching, developed at IIT Madras while he was a Research Student and Part-time Lecturer (1965-67), led Prof. Pasupathy to choose an academic career spanning more than 35 years in undergraduate and graduate teaching and research at the University of Toronto (1972-2007). Starting with his first publication in 1966, based on his M.Tech thesis at IIT Madras, Prof. Pasupathy also developed a great passion for research, and one his great accomplishments is the large number of graduate students and postdoctoral students he has trained over the course of 35 years.
Prof. Pasupathy is an international authority on the application of statistical communication theory and techniques to the design of digital communication systems. He was the first Canadian Professor in the area of communications to be listed in the prestigious “highly cited researchers” list of ISI Web of Knowledge (ISIHighlyCited.com), attesting to the widespread influence his research has had on both theory and practice. He has contributed high-quality, scholarly work to leading journals and conferences — in fact, more than 275 articles and contributions to 3 books. His contributions have been cited in more than 100 patent applications. Prof. Pasupathy’s specific influential-contributions lie in the area of bandwidth-efficient digital communication systems and application of statistical communication theory to a wide spectrum of areas such as array processing, computer algorithms for signal processing, DNA sequencing, advanced transceiver structures, mobile cellular networks, and coding algorithms and architectures.
He is a Fellow of IEEE Engineering Institute of Canada, and Canadian Academy of Engineering, and received the 2003 Award in Telecommunication from the Canadian Institute of Information Theory. For over fourteen years, he wrote the humour column “Light Traffic”, a feature of the IEEE Communications Magazine. Prof. Pasupathy is a student, by choice, of Tamil literature, and poetry. His poems and articles have appeared in several reputed magazines such as “Kalaimagal”, “Amudhasurabhi” and “Gopura Darsanam, and in Internet magazines such as “Thinnai” and “Hub”. சந்தவசந்தத்திற்குப் பேரிழப்பு. தொடங்கிய நாள் முதலாகச் சந்த வசந்தத்தோடு தொடர்ந்து இருந்தவர் பேராசிரியர். இதன் வளர்ச்சியிலும் இதன் கொள்கைகளை வகுப்பதிலும் பெருந்துணை செய்தவர். இலக்கண நேசன் என்ற பெயரில் ஆரம்பத்தில் பல கட்டுரைகள் எழுதியவர். பல இலக்கணப் புத்தகங்கள் எழுதப் பட்டிருக்கின்றன. ஆனால் யாப்பிலக்கண நூல் பசுபதியார் போல எவருமே எழுதியதில்லை. அதற்குக் காரணம் அந்நூல் பாடங்கள் முதலில் கற்றுக்கொடுக்கப்பட்டன. அதன் பிறகு ஆய்வு முறையில் அந்நூலை எழுதினார். அப்படி எழுதப் பட்ட நூல் வேறில்லை. தமிழ்க் கவிதை இலக்கணம் கற்பவர் இருக்குமட்டும் பசுபதியார் பெயர் நின்று நிலவும்.
அவருடைய சங்கச் சுரங்கம் ஒரு புதுமைப் படைப்பு.. எளிதில் விளங்கிக்கொள்ள முடியாத சங்கப்பாடல்களைக் கதைபோல நகைச்சுவை கலந்து சொன்னவர். இசையிலே தேர்ச்சி, திருப்புகழிலே தோய்வு எனப் பல ஆற்றல்கள் கொண்டவர். பன்முக வித்தகர். இனிய நண்பர். அவர் பணியிலிருந்து ஓய்வு பெற்றபோது அவரது மாணவர்கள் ஒரு இணைய தளத்தை உருவாக்கியிருந்தார்கள். அதில் அவர்கள் எழுதியதிலிருந்து நான் வேறோர் பசுபதியைக் கண்டேன். பேராசிரியராக அவர் எவ்வளவு நன்மதிப்புப் பெற்றிருந்தார் என்றும் எவ்வளவு பேருக்கு அவர் உதவியிருக்கிறார் என்பதும் தெரிய வந்தது. அவரோடு பழகுகிற வாய்ப்புக் கிடைத்ததே என் பேறு என்று அந்தத் தளத்தில் நான் எழுதினேன். ஒரு சமயம் மின்னஞ்சலில் முனைவர் பசுபதி என்று எழுதியிருந்தேன். என்னை முனைவர் என்று அழைக்கவேண்டாம் பேராசிரியர் என்றே அழையுங்கள். அதுவே எனக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி எனப் பதில் எழுதினார்.
அவர் வீட்டிற்குச் சென்றிருக்கிறேன். எங்கும் புத்தகங்கள். பழைய பத்திரிகைகளின் தொகுப்புகள்.
அவர் மறைவு எனக்குத் தனிப்பட்ட முறையிலும் பேரிழப்பு.
அவரை இழந்து வாடும் அவர் குடும்பத்தினருக்குத் தனது அனுதாபங்களைச் சந்த வசந்தம் தெரிவிக்கிறது.
நாளை தொடங்க இருக்கும் கவியரங்கைப் பேராசிரியர் பசுபதியார் நினைவுக்குச் சமர்ப்பணம் செய்கிறேன்
